INT. LIVING ROOM – LATE AFTERNOON
The daylight fades softly, casting an orange glow on the pale walls. The air is heavy, almost suffocating. Paul and Juliette, a couple in their thirties together for seven years, have just returned home after participating in the show *Tournez Manège*. Selected to test their compatibility, they were eliminated without giving a single matching answer. During the show, they laughed, smiled, hiding their embarrassment. But here, in the intimacy of their home, a heavy silence has settled.
Paul stands with arms crossed, staring at a closed window. His breathing is ragged. Juliette, sitting on the edge of the couch, nervously clutches a cushion, her fingers tense.
PAUL
(sarcastically)
We fix vintage planes... why not us?
JULIETTE
Because we’re rusted and no longer made of the same metal...
Paul steps closer, his eyes shining with rage and unshed tears.
PAUL
(brokenly)
Every day without you destroys me!
Juliette, in tears: *Why say this now?*
Paul screams, sweeps the table. A glass shatters. The echo lingers. Juliette closes her eyes but doesn’t move.
JULIETTE
(shouting)
Do you think a broken heart can be glued back together like a vase?
PAUL
(eyes bloodshot)
Yes, because I love you...
A flash of lightning illuminates the room. Their gazes lock, deep and agonizing, full of memories and regrets.
Paul steps dangerously close to Juliette, their faces inches apart. His breath is short, fists clenched. Juliette freezes, holding her breath, fear filling her eyes.
PAUL
(angrily whispering)
I just wanted us to be happy...
With a sudden, violent gesture, he punches the wall, leaving a visible mark. Juliette flinches, tears streaming down her face. Paul screams in rage, then turns away.
PAUL
(utterly defeated)
It’s over.
He grabs his coat and slams the door as he leaves. Silence falls, broken only by the sound of pouring rain. Juliette, alone, collapses onto the couch. She whispers faintly:
JULIETTE
(to herself)
Maybe it’s better this way...
She wipes her tears, eyes vacant, realizing that the fear of going too far in their hatred saved them from themselves.
